SHANGHAI, CHINA – April XX, 2025 – QNX, a division of BlackBerry Limited (NYSE: BB; TSX: BB) and ThunderX Auto Technology Co., Ltd. today announced that QNX® technology will serve as the foundational software platform for ThunderX’s Cockpit-Autonomous Drive (AD) fusion domain controller that will be deployed by one of China’s top OEMs across multiple models including both electric vehicles (EVs) and traditional internal combustion engine SUVs.
As part of the agreement, BlackBerry will license its QNX technology to ThunderX, including the QNX® OS for Safety, QNX® Software Development Platform and QNX® Hypervisor for Safety. The QNX-powered ThunderX Cockpit-AD fusion domain controller will feature a comprehensive, interconnected multi-screen display that combines instrumentation, in-vehicle infotainment and in-cabin ADAS to deliver a safe and intuitive technology-enabled mobility experience for drivers and passengers alike.
QNX software also enables ThunderX to consolidate multiple systems with mixed criticality and different operating environments onto a single powerful hardware and software platform, helping to reduce both the initial development and long-term costs of ownership while still enabling high standards of functional safety and security.
“We are proud to partner with ThunderX to help support their innovative Cockpit-AD fusion solution which has already found an eager buyer in the Chinese commercial vehicle space,” said Dhiraj Handa, SVP & GM, Asia Pacific region at QNX. “QNX’s certified safety technologies and hypervisor solutions provide a robust foundation for next-generation domain controllers, enabling OEMs to achieve both functional safety and cost optimization. This collaboration underscores our commitment to delivering secure, reliable, and scalable software platforms that power the future of mobility.”
“As consumer demand for automotive intelligence grows and breakthroughs in high-performance computing chips continue, the integration of cockpit and driving domains has become a critical direction for the industry,” said Dongchao Xu, CEO of ThunderX. “The commercialization of this integration faces multiple challenges in both software and hardware design however. QNX’s powerful and stable software foundation has enabled us to build a full-stack capability for cockpit-driving integration, allowing us to continuously optimize product performance and promote the widespread adoption of this technology. Together, we aim to contribute to the global automotive industry’s intelligent transformation.”
QNX is trusted as the foundation for a software-driven future by most leading OEMs and Tier 1s worldwide, including BMW, Bosch, Continental, Dongfeng Motor, Geely, Honda, Mercedes-Benz, Toyota, Volkswagen, Volvo, and more. Its foundational software supports future-proof engineering design, from digital cockpits and advanced driver assistance systems (ADAS) to infotainment systems and domain controllers, enabling automakers to bring innovation to market faster and at lower cost.
